Symbyx Biome
Laser & Light Therapy Devices for Chronic Conditions

Project overview
Symbyx Biome is Laser & Light Therapy Devices for Chronic Conditions. Clinically-backed red-light therapy devices for pain, inflammation, and neurological support. Built with high standards for performance, security, and intuitive user experiences, the platform is engineered to support mission-critical workflows and seamless scale.
What was the problem or pain point
Client Dilemma & Technical Bottleneck
Symbyx Biome is an Australian medical technology and photobiomodulation (laser therapy) company manufacturing clinical and personal laser devices for neurodegenerative conditions (Parkinson's disease), chronic pain, and gut microbiome therapy. As the company expanded from clinical trials to direct-to-consumer international sales, they struggled with disjointed digital infrastructure: their e-commerce storefront did not support international multi-currency purchasing, lacked an educational portal for patients to learn complex therapy protocols, and had no secure clinician portal for medical practitioners to prescribe device protocols and track patient compliance.
What we suggested to the client
Solid Sphere Architectural Recommendation
Solid Sphere proposed building an integrated global digital health and medical e-commerce ecosystem. We recommended architecting a high-performance headless e-commerce platform on Shopify Plus and Next.js with localized international currencies, paired with an interactive patient therapy protocol companion and a secure clinician onboarding portal.
What made this project challenging
Selling medical laser and light therapy devices globally while complying with medical device marketing regulations
Educating chronic pain and Parkinson's patients on clinical photobiomodulation protocols
Managing multi-currency international fulfillment across UK, EU, US, and Australia
Building an ongoing treatment tracking portal helping patients monitor mobility and pain scores
What was implemented and how it was implemented
Step-by-Step Technical Execution
We engineered the consumer storefront using Next.js with TypeScript and TailwindCSS, connected to Shopify Plus via the Storefront GraphQL API. We implemented automated IP-based international geolocation routing, enabling customers in the UK, EU, US, Australia, and Canada to browse localized medical compliance certifications, regional customer reviews, and checkout in their native currencies via Stripe and localized payment gateways. We designed an interactive, step-by-step Therapy Protocol Guide where patients input their diagnosis and device model to receive calibrated daily laser treatment schedules, complete with timer countdowns and visual body placement diagrams. We built a dedicated Clinician Portal using Node.js and PostgreSQL, allowing neurologists and physiotherapists to register, access peer-reviewed clinical trial whitepapers, and issue customized device regimens to their patients. The platform was optimized for SEO and accessibility, achieving top search rankings for photobiomodulation therapy.
How we delivered
Developed high-conversion headless e-commerce store with regional currency and tax localization
Built interactive clinical research hub translating peer-reviewed studies into patient guides
Engineered patient onboarding treatment portal with personalized protocol schedules and checklists
Integrated multi-warehouse inventory management ensuring reliable global order fulfillment
What did we use to implement it
Technology Stack & Technical Rationale
Next.js and TypeScript provided server-side rendering, sub-second page loads, and internationalization capabilities. Shopify Plus handled global multi-currency e-commerce and regulatory compliance checkout. GraphQL provided efficient querying of localized product catalogs and clinical accessories. TailwindCSS enabled a clean, medical-grade aesthetic. Node.js and PostgreSQL powered the clinician portal and custom therapy protocol engine. Stripe and localized gateways handled multi-currency payments.
Key outcomes
Over $15M in medical therapy devices sold worldwide
Expanded distribution across 35 countries
4.9★ patient satisfaction rating
